Your North Node - "Flipping the Script"

Updated: Jun 13, 2022

You can find your North and South placements here... https://astrostyle.com/cosmic-calculators/lunar-north-south-nodes/.

The North Node symbolizes a way of being that you've mapped out to explore in this lifetime. Something you and your family agreed was all on you ;). It can even be that people who express or hold this type of energy you would point to earlier in life and say, "There is no way I would ever be like that!". After your first Saturn return (between 27-31), Uranus opposition (around age 42), or second Saturn return (between 54-58), you may shock the heck out of yourself ;)

The North and South Nodes are not actual planets but calculated points where the Sun and Moon's orbits intersect (image below). They are points where eclipses occur, and these eclipse times activate areas of your life indicated by whatever house and sign they take place in your natal chart. As I write this here in February of 2022, the North Node is in Taurus, and the South Node is in Scorpio. So, whichever houses Scorpio and Taurus fall in your chart will be highlighted from eclipse time through the next six months, especially if you have personal planets in your natal chart within 3 or so degrees of where they are taking place. The first eclipse cycle of 2022 will begin with a Solar Eclipse @ 10° 35' of Taurus on April 30th, followed by the Lunar Eclipse taking place @ 25° 16' of Scorpio on May 16th. A second cycle takes place towards the end of this year with a Solar Eclipse @ 2° 7' of Scorpio on October 25th, followed by a Lunar Eclipse @ 15° 59' of Taurus on November 8th. Any transiting planets that hit these degrees post eclipse can signify "events" that shake things up for you in this area of your life.

In terms of this new energetic expression, the ruler of your North Node will show how you will step into this energy. Continuing with the example I gave in the South Node article, let's say your North Node is in the 12th house in Aries and its ruler, Mars, in the 4th house in Leo. You'll be moving away from the hard work and rule-following towards more flow and following intuition. With Mars in Leo in the 4th, you'll be stepping into this by removing anything that does not support who you are on a deep emotional level.

The 4th house represents the actual place you call home, your private life, and your emotional well-being. Maybe that South Node vibe from your parents is not allowing you to shine, so part of stepping into that North Node expression means you'll need to create distance from their influence. Whether that means physically moving out, creating boundaries that your family honors, or both. It could also mean uncovering, processing, and integrating anything preventing you from realizing emotional security within. Experiences that were part of your upbringing that caused repression or distortion.

Later in life, it could mean feeling a call to leave your job or shift relationships. With that South Node influence, you may put in a lot of work to get to where you are, but if it doesn't tick the box emotionally or allow you to express yourself authentically, you'll start feeling the call to move on. Maybe you’re an accountant, which was enjoyable in the earlier part of your life, but you’ve gradually begun to feel drained and unfulfilled. You begin to explore dancing, which quickly becomes something you look forward to. Whenever you aren't at the office, you are on the dance floor. You quickly launch to the head of your class, and one day an entertainment manager visits. They offer you an opportunity to join one of their productions, which means you get to dance, perform, and travel the world! It seems like a dream opportunity, and your initial response internally is YES!! Then the mind kicks in, and you realize it would mean leaving your job and taking a significant pay cut. It would also impact others close to you and overall seems risky. Your North Node is calling. What will you do? ;)

If you have a planet(s) square to the Nodes, you've already experienced some of the energies of the South and North Node. Using the same example as the South Node article, let's go with Venus squaring your nodes. Maybe you were a dancer or explored another creative pursuit in other lifetimes, but it was never something you stuck with or earned a living from. With Venus square, maybe you were in relationships where you placed your partners' needs before your own, they didn’t allow it, or obligations got in the way. It sounds like that entertainment manager is presenting an opportunity to choose another path this time around. ;)

Embracing the energies of your North Node is more than likely going to push you out of your comfort zone. That said, it’s a sure-fire way to feed your soul.

All the best,

Keith
