You can find your South and North node placements here... https://astrostyle.com/cosmic-calculators/lunar-north-south-nodes/

The South Node symbol in your natal chart will provide clues on the type of lens you and your family agreed to see the world through. As a newborn, you need a container and perspective to start this life experience. Each member of your immediate family will have their unique perspective and expression of this energy. The dynamics are limitless, and the way you experience and respond to these will become an essential part of your unique expression as you move through life.

Often, the family dynamic can be a challenge to navigate as you've probably had many go-arounds with them in other lifetimes, which perhaps didn't always turn out the best. You're essentially picking up where you left off, and any problematic experiences will still be in "soul memory" and influence interactions in this life.

The North and South Nodes are not actual planets but calculated points where the Sun and Moon's orbits intersect (image below). They are points where eclipses occur, and these eclipse times activate areas of your life indicated by whatever house and sign they take place in your natal chart. As I write this here in February of 2022, the North Node is in Taurus, and the South Node, in Scorpio. So, whichever house Scorpio and Taurus sit in your chart will be highlighted from eclipse time through the next six months. The first Solar Eclipse of 2022 will occur in Taurus on April 30th, and the first Lunar Eclipse will happen in Scorpio on May 16th.

Let's say you have a natal South Node in the 6th house (the house of Virgo). You and your family may have agreed to see things through the lens of hard work and service. Maybe your parents busted their butts to make ends meet and felt it was super important to follow their rules and those of society. So… growing up, you were expected to follow the rules, work hard, and when you got caught cheating on that school assignment, it was probably a rough couple of days, weeks, or months ;). Let's say the sign on your 6th house was Libra. It was high on your parents' list to try and maintain peace and harmony within the household…which may not have always worked out so well.

The ruler of Libra is Venus. So, the placement of Venus in your chart would symbolize how you show up within this dynamic. Your default mode. It also gives clues on how you actualized your Pluto placement in other lifetimes. Maybe Venus is in your 1st house in Taurus. You're doing things at your own pace and your way. Very self-reliant, steadfast, and a natural leader. There goes that peace and harmony your parents were hoping to maintain ;).

If your natal Venus was retrograde (appearing to be moving backward from the Earth's point of view), this would lend to you being more introverted and expressing Aquarius-type energy. Not too interested in following the status quo and having a unique perspective on relationship dynamics. The "going your own way" mode of Taurus in the 1st house would be amped up a few notches.

The aspects to this South Node in your natal chart will provide more context. If you have lots of squares and oppositions, you've signed up to experience some tension and opposing points of view. These are essential to see your unique expression and contribute to your evolution as you grow older.

South node contacts in synastry (comparing the natal charts of you and another person) could also give clues on if you had previous life experiences with them. Let's say another has their Moon at or very close to the same degree you have your South Node. This can mean there was a strong emotional connection in another lifetime. Possibly a parent/child relationship. In intimate relationships (outside family contacts), there can be a replay of other lifetime scenarios for you both to work through. Typically, there will be a strong attraction but there may be challenges to navigate due to "unfinished business" from a soul perspective. Maybe in another lifetime, there was betrayal or dishonesty. This may explain a seemingly unexplainable distrust with this person in this lifetime.

In this scenario, seeing this potential objectively shown in synastry can provide much-needed perspective and open the door to changing karma. "Now that I see this in our synastry, that may explain why I feel like I can't trust you. Can we work through this together?" If your partner can meet you at this level, you have the opportunity to maintain a healthy relationship. If they can't, creating distance may be needed to avoid a repeat.

In times of stress or when things are unclear, the South Node energies are where you'll retreat since it's well known and comfortable. As you get older (first Saturn return between 27-31, Uranus opposition around age 42, or second Saturn return between 54-58), you'll begin navigating towards the energies of your North Node placement. Not that you'll dismiss or move away from the South Node energies, you'll evolve into a more balanced expression of yourself by embracing a way of being that is opposite of what you've known.

In some instances, there will be a planet(s) square to the Nodes. This would mean that you have experienced a few ways to express the energies represented by the North and South Nodes, but not all. The planet(s) square will provide more detail, but you are looking to "seal the deal" in terms of all the ways your soul wants to experience these energies.

Using a simple example, let's say your South Node is in Libra, North in Aries with Venus squaring. In other lifetimes, you may have experienced relationships where there were power dynamics or you over-relied on other people, followed by times where you did your own thing and avoided relationships. This time around, you may be looking to achieve the perfect balance between your own needs and those of others in relationships. With a square, you'll probably experience some tension through life as you navigate toward this balance. With Venus square, you may also be reconnecting with others with who you've had relationships in other lifetimes to have another go at it ;)

Going with the scenario above with a 6th house South Node, you have a 12th house North Node. Instead of all the hard work, following rules, doing things by the book, you want to introduce more flow. Feeling into things, connecting with your higher self, and only taking action from an intuitive place.

All the best,

Keith
